CoreExpress® Module Features CAN Bus Interface

LiPPERT Embedded Computers’ CoreExpress-ECO2 computer on module can be used in industrial applications. The integrated CAN interface enables simply integration into the popular network technology. Using an Intel® Atom™ E6xxT Processor, the board features dense integration while consuming only little power.

The CoreExpress-ECO2 module utilizes the Intel Atom E6xxT Processor to gain a wide variety of functions with only few building blocks. Very low power consumption is a distinctive feature of these processors. Depending on the available models with clock frequencies of 0.6, 1.0, 1.3, and 1.6 GHz, their specified Thermal Design Power figures range from just about 2.7 to 3.9 watts. The Advanced COM board features:

  • 2 GB DDR2 RAM max. (soldered)
  • SDVO and LVDS graphics interfaces
  • 2 SATA ports
  • 3 x1 PCIe ports
  • 7 USB 2.0 ports (including a client port)
  • Gigabit LAN Controller with IEEE1588
  • CAN bus (external transceivers required)

These hardware features are complemented by a Fail-Safe BIOS and integrated LiPPERT Enhanced Management Technology (LEMT). LEMT is implemented in all current LiPPERT products and provides, besides internal housekeeping, functions for Condition Monitoring. A special feature offered by the CoreExpress-ECO2 is the ability to measure its supply current in real time and thus to determine the power consumption of the CPU in different operating states. Developers can embed LEMT into their applications using the provided source code interface. LEMT Web enables remote operation using any web browser. The module is available in industrial (-20°…+60°C) and extended temperature ranges.
(-40°…85°C)

With these features, the CoreExpress-ECO2 lends itself to automation devices that need to communicate over CAN based IO systems. Of course, due to the low power consumption, it is also very useable for portable, battery-driven systems.

About CoreExpress®
CoreExpress modules are complete computer-on-Module (COM). These are highly integrated, small and compact PCs, which can be used similar to an integrated circuit in an embedded computer board design. COMs integrate processor, memory, graphics, and BIOS as well as general purpose I/O ports. These interfaces are legacy-free and use only digital buses such as PCI Express, Serial ATA, Ethernet, USB and HD Audio. All signals are available on a high-speed 220-pin connector.

CoreExpress modules are mounted on a carrier board that contains the necessary peripherals for the application. In this way, small, highly specialized embedded computer systems can be built.
