Advantech Presents Latest Atom Computer On Module

The SOM-6761 CPU module is only 95 x 95 mm in dimension and is powered by the Intel® Atom™ N270 processor.

Irvine, California, April 13th, 2009 -- Advantech, the global leading ePlatform service provider, unveils its new smallest Computer On Module (COM). The SOM-6761 CPU module is only 95 x 95 mm in dimension and is powered by the Intel® Atom™ N270 processor. The low power rating of the Atom™ architecture consumes only 11 Watt of power yet offers full I/O functionality and an integrated graphic engine with multiple display support. SOM-6761 also works smart to improve reliability of applications through “Smart & Secure” features which monitor CMOS battery voltage and system fan temperatures to prevent overheating.

The combination of SOM-6761’s small board size of only 95 x 95mm and Intel’s 45nm Atom™ N270 processor with 945GSE and ICH7M chipset makes it especially suitable for low power, small portable devices and applications. Both CMOS battery voltage detection and smart system fan control to prevent overheating and better manage system status can be implemented via Advantech’s Secure & Unified Smart Interface (SUSI) API suite. These features keep the system stable and secure, Because the Atom™ N270 is specially designed for embedded applications, Intel provides longevity support at least until 2015, which is important to embedded system integrators.

In addition, SOM-6761 with Intel® Atom™ N270 processor supports Speed Step voltage and frequency functions to reduce workload and throttling which lowers power use. The 945GSE chipset with integrated Intel GMA950 graphic engine and Microsoft DirectX 9.1 supports multiple displays consisting of: VGA, 36-bit LVDS, SDVO, and TV-out. As well as low power mobile applications, SOM-6761 is suitable for general purpose applications like: POS/ KIOSK, Medical, Factory Automation, Transportation, Entry-level gaming machines, Security and Surveillance etc. SOM-6761 supports Windows Vista, XP, XPe, and CE. In addition, Advantech SUSI API supports Watchdog timer, GPIO, SMBus and Hardware Monitoring.

SOM-6761 supports up to 2GB of DDR2 memory and comes with full I/O functions like:
l 1 x 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN
l 3 x PCIe x1 or 1 PCIe x4 (non-LAN)
l 4 x PCI masters
l 2 x SATA ports
l 8 x USB 2.0 ports
l HD or AC97 Audio interface
l 1 x EIDE interface
l 8-bit GPIO
